In a continued effort to reach cancer patients and their families, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology has translated Radiation Therapy for Cancer: Facts to Help Patients Make an Informed Decision, a treatment guide for cancer patients, into Spanish. The 24-page booklet helps patients and their families understand how radiation therapy works to treat cancer. It also provides information on the various members of the treatment team and explains differences between the many types of radiation therapy.
The booklet, which can be downloaded free from www.astro.org/patient/treatment_information, is part of ASTRO's award-winning public awareness campaign to help educate patients, referring physicians and the public on the benefits of radiation therapy. This campaign includes 15 different brochures and a patient-dedicated Web site, www.rtanswers.org, that was launched last fall.
ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world, with more than 8,500 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies. As the leading organization in radiation oncology, biology and physics, the Society is dedicated to the advancement of the practice of radiation oncology by promoting excellence in patient care, providing opportunities for educational and professional development, promoting research and disseminating research results and representing radiation oncology in a rapidly evolving socioeconomic healthcare environment.
