The Joan Scarangello Foundation to Conquer Lung Cancer is committed to fight lung cancer by funding innovative research and increasing awareness of the world’s leading cancer killer, with a special focus on non-smoking-related lung cancer.
By the end of 2006, Joan’s Legacy will have awarded over $2.4 Million in direct research grants to top cancer centers and raised awareness of lung cancer across the United States. The first nonprofit in the U.S. to identify and cultivate lung cancer research with a special focus on non-smoking-related lung cancer, Joan’s Legacy has quickly become recognized as the “venture capital” for lung cancer research in the U.S.
Joan's Legacy is named for Joan Scarangello McNeive, a gifted writer, life-long New Yorker and nonsmoker, who died at age 47 in 2001 after a valiant nine-month fight with lung cancer. Started by her legion of family and friends, Joan’s Legacy is now a leading resource in the search for new treatments and a cure for lung cancer, and the end to the smoking-related stigma that plagues victims of the lung cancer diagnosis.
Joan's bravery, her fight for life and unwavering search for new treatments inspire us.
Today Joan's Legacy is:Awarding individual research grants; Promoting and recognizing excellence in journalism about lung cancer to increase awareness about the disease;
Collaborating with other not-for-profit organizations that join us in seeking a cure for lung cancer in all its forms.
